Walk for Her: How Your Daily Steps Can Unlock a Free Mammogram

Here’s a reason to take the long way home this month. myAster, the digital healthcare app from Aster DM Healthcare, has launched Walk for Her, a Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign where every 10,000 steps logged on the app unlocks a free mammogram for a woman in the UAE.
The community has already got moving. Participants have logged more than 19 million steps so far, unlocking 1,900 free screenings, and 236 women have already booked theirs.
It’s a simple idea with a powerful purpose. According to the World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, and around 80% of cases occur in women with no risk factor other than being female and over 40. When it’s detected early, most breast cancer can be treated successfully, which is why regular screening matters so much.
“Early detection can make a meaningful difference to breast cancer outcomes, but screening has to be accessible and acted upon in time,” says Dr Sherbaz Bichu, Group Chief Operating Officer – GCC, Aster DM Healthcare.
How to take part:
Download the myAster app or sign up at myaster.com.
Log your steps throughout October. Every 10,000 steps helps unlock a free mammogram.
Share who you’re walking for using #WalkForHer.
Screenings unlocked during the campaign can be booked through the app at participating Aster Clinics across the UAE until 31 December 2026.
The beauty of this campaign is that everyone can take part, men included. (Men can get breast cancer too, though it’s rare, at around 0.5–1% of cases.) Every walk to work, school run or evening stroll along the beach could help a woman get checked.
So grab your trainers, call a friend and get walking. And if you’re due a screening yourself, consider this your reminder to book it. 🎀
