Why Summer Is the Best Time for Women in Dubai to Get Serious About Their Health

Every July, the same pattern repeats across Dubai: the city slows down, the group chats go quiet, and the frantic pace of the social season finally releases its grip. Most of us treat this as downtime for rest and travel. Fewer of us treat it as what it actually is - the best window all year to deal with the health conversations we keep putting off.

Women are particularly good at deprioritising themselves during the busy months. Fertility check-ups, hormone panels, menopause conversations, that persistent tiredness we've quietly decided is "just how it is now" - these all get pushed to "when things calm down." Summer is when things calm down.

The heat itself plays a role too. Hormonal fluctuations, whether from perimenopause, the contraceptive pill, or cycle-related changes, are often intensified by extreme temperatures - fatigue hits harder, sleep is more easily disrupted, and mood shifts can feel more pronounced. Rather than writing this off as "just the heat," it's worth treating summer as useful diagnostic information. If something feels harder than it should, that's worth a conversation with a doctor, not just a coping mechanism.

This is also the ideal time for the appointments we tend to defer indefinitely - a full hormone panel, a fertility health check if that's on your mind, a proper conversation about perimenopause symptoms rather than a WhatsApp group's shared home remedies. Clinics are quieter, appointment slots are easier to get, and there's less of the "I'll deal with it after this event/trip/deadline" excuse that dominates the rest of the year.

There's a wider point here too, about ownership. Women's health has a long history of being treated as an afterthought - by healthcare systems, by workplaces, by our own to-do lists. Reclaiming a slower month as a genuine health month, rather than purely a rest month, is a small act of putting yourself back at the top of your own list.

If you do one thing this July: book the appointment you've been avoiding. Your future self, back in the busy season, will be glad you did.
