Why Looking After Your Mind Shouldn’t Wait for a Crisis

Most of us only think about seeing a psychologist when something feels wrong. But what if understanding how we think, feel and behave could help us before challenges start affecting our relationships, school, work or everyday lives?

That’s the thinking behind Bloomfield Counselling and Psychology, a CDA-licensed practice in Arjan, Dubai, that combines clinical care with a preventative approach to wellbeing.

Bloomfield supports children, teenagers, adults and families, as well as schools and organisations. Its services range from individual counselling and family therapy to psychological and neurodevelopmental assessments, plus programmes designed to strengthen emotional wellbeing where people live, learn and work.

The centre is led by Founder and Clinical Director Katrina Spartalis, whose background spans education, counselling and clinical leadership. Her approach recognises that emotional and behavioural challenges rarely exist in isolation, and that good support starts with understanding the whole person and their circumstances.

Care is tailored to each client and draws on evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and person-centred therapy. For children and teens, that might mean help with anxiety, emotional regulation, self-esteem, learning difficulties or challenges at school. Adults can find support for stress, burnout, grief, trauma, depression and major life transitions.

For many families, assessments are a turning point. Bloomfield offers assessments for ADHD, autism and learning needs, helping parents and individuals gain clarity and understand what support could help.

Bloomfield’s work also reaches beyond the therapy room. Through family support, school consultancy and professional programmes, the team focuses on practical strategies people can use in everyday life.

For Spartalis, the goal is to shift how we see mental health support. Rather than something we turn to only when things go wrong, it can help us understand ourselves better, build coping skills and get the right help at the right time.

In a fast-paced city like Dubai, that feels like a message worth hearing.
