Preventative Wellness in Dubai // Inside Akari’s NovoTHOR Light Bed and Oxygen Training

Looking after our health is increasingly about prevention, not just treatment. It’s also about recognising that how we feel emotionally matters as much as how we feel physically. That thinking sits at the heart of Akari, a science-led wellness sanctuary in One Central, Dubai, which brings advanced wellness technologies together in a calm, restorative space.

Where it starts

Every visit begins with a consultation. Rather than booking a set treatment, guests talk through their needs and goals with the team and explore which approaches might suit them best. It’s a considered, personal start that feels very different from walking in for a one-size-fits-all session.

The NovoTHOR light bed

One of Akari’s signature technologies is the NovoTHOR whole-body light bed. It uses red and near-infrared light, a technique known as photobiomodulation, in a calm, dimly lit room. Light therapy has become one of the most talked-about tools in wellness, and the whole-body format makes it a deeply relaxing experience.

Intermittent Hypoxia-Hyperoxia Training (IHHT)

Also on offer is IHHT. Sitting in a cocooned pod, you breathe through a mask that alternates between reduced-oxygen and increased-oxygen air. The changing levels create a controlled stimulus that the body responds to. The technology is also being studied in some supportive care settings, including research involving people after cancer treatment.

Body and mind

Akari’s wider message is about making space for wellbeing, and recognising the connection between physical health, rest and emotional balance. Its experiences are designed to complement a broader self-care routine.

Importantly, Akari is clear that these therapies are not a substitute for cancer screening, medical treatment or professional mental health care. Anyone undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment should speak to their oncology team before trying them.
