Avani+ Fares Maldives, named Best Dive Resort 2024 by Travel Trade Maldives, invites guests to embark on a purposeful ocean journey with the launch of its very first PADI AWARE Week, taking place from 12 to 21 September 2025.
This inaugural event marks the beginning of a recurring annual celebration, offering guests the chance to connect with the underwater world and learn how to protect it, all while enjoying one of the most breathtaking locations on earth.
Set within the vibrant Baa Atoll, part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, PADI AWARE Week is designed to celebrate marine biodiversity, promote sustainable diving practices, and foster deeper guest engagement with ocean conservation. Throughout the week, guests will enjoy access to exclusive activities and expert-led sessions designed to both educate and inspire.
Among the highlights there will be some PADI Specialty Courses lead by some AmbassaDivers, including the PADI Manta Ray Awareness Specialty Course, where participants will explore the captivating world of manta rays. This unique experience dives into manta ray anatomy, feeding habits, cleaning stations, and the conservation challenges they face. Through engaging theory sessions and optional dives, guests will gain a deeper understanding of one of the ocean's most majestic creatures.
For those passionate about preserving marine ecosystems, the PADI Dive Against Debris Specialty Course empowers divers to take direct action by learning how to safely collect underwater debris and contribute valuable data to PADI AWARE’s global conservation database. Additional specialty courses will be available for those looking to expand their skills and knowledge in unique and meaningful ways.
Guests will also have the opportunity to join a guided snorkelling trip to Hanifaru Bay in celebration of World Manta Day. As the world’s largest seasonal aggregation site for manta rays, this excursion offers a rare and unforgettable encounter with these gentle giants in their natural habitat.
Throughout the week, ocean lovers can participate in freediving and breathwork sessions with Hani Prinsloo, an 11-time freediving world record holder. Daily snorkelling and scuba diving adventures on some of the Maldives' most vibrant reefs and protected dive sites will further connect guests with the marine life that surrounds the island.
Rounding out the programme are coral conservation workshops, interactive marine biology talks, and beach clean-ups, allowing guests to get hands-on in supporting local sustainability efforts.
“This is more than just an event - it’s a commitment,” said Judd Rabbidge, General Manager at Avani+ Fares Maldives. “As we launch our first PADI AWARE Week, we aim to inspire a new wave of mindful travellers who want to not only experience the magic of the Maldives but help protect it for the future.”
All PADI AWARE Week experiences are complimentary for resort guests, with diving and snorkelling sessions available at a special rate during the event period.
