With spring break starting early, Cinema Akil in Alserkal Avenue, the region’s only independent arthouse cinema, is embracing sunshine with ‘Here, Together’ daytime screenings, creating a space for audiences to gather, slow down and share quiet moments together.
In addition, Cinema Akil is introducing community seats through a “pay what you can” initiative designed for anyone in transit, awaiting a flight, or simply seeking a moment of connection. The initiative extends an open invitation for guests to take a seat, watch a film and spend time in a shared, welcoming space.
With screenings now taking place weekdays with the first show at 10 AM and the last show at 3 PM, and weekends with the first show at 10 AM and the last show at 5 PM, the cinema continues its role as a welcoming space for the community to take a break from the day and reconnect through film.
The daytime programme has been thoughtfully curated to appeal to a range of audiences. Family-friendly titles include Spirited Away, directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, directed by Liane-Cho Han Jin Kuang and Maïlys Vallade.
Through these daytime screenings, and its ‘pay what you can’ seats Cinema Akil continues to offer more than just films on screen, creating a space where audiences can take a breather, connect and experience cinema together.
As part of another community initiative, Cinema Akil is also collaborating with a selection of Alserkal Avenue partners on special buy-one-get-one experiences to offer a more well rounded experience to visitors. Cinema Akil will be sharing details of the partnerships on its social channels as the programme continues to unfold.

Spent way too long on Poki last weekend — started with one puzzle game and ended up trying like five different ones. Everything loads right in the browser which is nice when you just want something quick without installing anything. The variety is honestly what keeps me coming back.
