JOB TITLE: Founder + CEO of The Brush Spa / @thebrushspadxb
MOVED TO THE UAE IN: January 2021
Wilonda Previlon is the Founder + Owner of The Brush Spa, the UAE’s first and only on-demand makeup brush cleaning service.
Born in Haiti and raised in the USA, Wilonda has been an Influencer/Content Creator since 2012. Always involved in the beauty industry she loves to bring something different into the space. When she started out there were not many dark skin women on YouTube showing different hairstyles and makeup options for their rich skin colour. So she took the plunge!
Now having been in the beauty space for over 12 years, she wanted to once again, bring something different to this industry - which is where The Brush Spa was born.
Let's discover a typical day in Wilonda's world:
5AM/6:30AM: I wake up with the Sun. Meaning, during Daylight Savings Time in the Spring/Summer, when the Sun is up early around 5ish-am; I’m up. During the Fall/Winter months when the Sun comes up a little later around 6:30ish-am, that is the time I get up. Workouts normally last about 1 hr to 1 hr 30 mins.
9AM: Work starts. I am doing admin work such as emails, social media checks and planning with my team, and coordinating with my delivery drivers and cleaners that will start to work when hours of operation begin at 10am.
10AM: The Rush. I am now the Operations Manager. The Brush Spa deliveries and pickups start, so this is the time I ensure all appointments are taken care of on our calendar, and customer service is being handled properly. I help handle customer service as well when needed and help guide our drivers when there’s a problem with not being able to reach the customer.
12NOON: Honestly, it depends on the day. As of this moment, The Brush Spa is open for pickups on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, so on alternate days when we are not doing pickups, and just drop offs, I have more free-time which my time is devoted to my personal platforms and other ventures I am involved in. I would spend my mornings creating content for my personal Instagram and/or Youtube page, handling customer service as well on that side since I do sell Merch, responding and negotiating sponsorships with brands, editing videos, etc.. I am also a Creative Director for a podcast I oversee, so all these can go well into the evening for the rest of the day.
4PM: Prepping/making dinner. I love to cook, so I tend to get very creative in the kitchen. I don’t meal plan, so whatever I feel like eating that day is what I tend to create. This is why I love Dubai so much, I have access to over 7 grocery stores within walking distance I can easily go to for fresh ingredients to create whatever type of meal I want; something that was very difficult to do in the US, where I had to pre-plan everything because I had to drive to the nearest market.
6PM: Around this time the Sun is starting to set. I love working on whichever hobby that fancys me at that moment. I choose to do my hobbies around this time because it is my “winding down time”. As I mentioned earlier, I go with the Sun. When the Sun starts to set, my body automatically wants to get ready to rest as well. Working on a hobby I enjoy helps me relax from a full day’s work, which can come with mental tension. At the moment, sewing is my hobby of choice, so I put on a podcast or a Youtube video and sew. This helps me not think so much of work; even though I still jump in if my team needs me until closing hour. So, I’m not totally disconnected, but way less than the past 8+hrs
10PM: 80% of the time, I am asleep by 10pm, or at least in bed dozing off. I am not a night owl at all, so the earlier I go to bed, the happier and more energized I am the next day to start it all over again.
