JOB TITLE: Founder & CEO of THE MAMA CONSULTANCY
MOVED TO THE UAE IN: 2019
Lynsay Kilbane is the founder & CEO of The Mama Consultancy, based in Abu Dhabi. Her company provides exceptional household staff, including governesses, chefs, house managers, and more, to ultra-high-net-worth families globally. In addition, their exclusive Mama Concierge service offers lifestyle management for families.
Let's walk through a typical day in her life and career...
7AM - Wake up and check in: I am a sucker for checking my phone first thing to see if I have any urgent messages from my clients and candidates. As a global business owner, I often get messages overnight from other time zones. With the recent launch of The Mama Concierge service, I need to be on the lookout for urgent requests too. Then it's up to feed and water my Chihuahua, Albie.
8:30AM - Reformer Pilates: I love to get my workout in the morning as it sets me up with a positive and productive mindset for the day. I have recently fallen in love with Reformer Pilates. My studio is literally a stone’s throw from my house which is perfect.
9:30AM - Staff Check In & Delegation & To-Do's: Cappuccino in hand I get to work. Jen, my assistant arrives and we have a quick check in. I delegate tasks if necessary and start tackling my to-do lists. For me it’s a combination of checking WhatsApps, emails, and recruitment platforms on repeat all day long!
10AM - Interviews: I love to interview candidates personally, so I do try to do as many as I can myself. I have a great relationship with my clients and I like to use this personal relationship to find a candidate that is not only qualified for the role but someone who will also click with the client's personality and quirks.
12NOON - If I am working in person with my assistant we catch up on business development, social media and personal branding at least once a day. This has been a game changer. Before taking on a full-time assistant I found it difficult to make time for these vital areas of the business. I am very grateful for Jen!
2PM - CLIENT CALLS & CONCIERGE: Most clients check in with me over WhatsApp but it’s great to pick up the phone too. Afternoons are a good time to work on the concierge area of the business. Again, I love to personally oversee that everything is running smoothly, the quality of work is outstanding and that deadlines are being met.
3PM - Late Lunch: I am usually fasted on coffee until around now. I go through phases of cooking at home and loving it or the complete opposite and I will order in all week. Luckily, there are so many healthy options available.
4PM - Daily Checklist: I love a list! I have so many across the business that I use digitally, plus I usually have at least 2 notebooks on the go. Each position I am recruiting for has its own daily list and I like to keep up with this daily and weekly. This ensures I can give all roles a fair amount of attention.
5:30PM - CANDIDATE CHECK IN: If I have candidates on trial, I will check in with them to see how it’s going. I like to know if they are happy, that is a core value of The Mama Consultancy.
6PM - FINISH UP: I am trying really hard to put my laptop down around this time and focus on personal time. Easier said than done, I love to be busy and I try and be as available as possible for my clients.
8PM - FOOTSTEPS: Ideally I take this opportunity to go on a walk with my partner and dog or catch up with my family on a walking phone call. Such an efficient way of keeping the connection with home in the UK and getting those all-important steps into my day!
9PM - NIGHTLY RITUAL: Without fail, no matter where I am in the world I have to have my bath at the end of the day. This is where I can truly switch off and relax. It’s essential for my wellbeing and happiness. Time for bed, I read fiction every night before bed, this enables me to switch off and sleep the best.
