Horse riding has long been a big part of life in the Middle East, deeply rooted in the region’s culture, history, and way of life. Last year, the equestrian equipment market in the GCC countries was valued at USD 19.36 million, showing the significant amount people are spending on horse riding gear in the region.
But this can be a very expensive hobby to maintain for many. From saddles and stirrups to grooming kits, even the smallest essentials can add up to a significant cost.
However, cost-conscious horse riders are increasingly prepared to shop around to ensure their passion does not break the bank.
UK-based equestrian content creator Millie Stennett has found a smart way to cut costs without cutting corners.
22-year-old Millie has been around horses since her childhood. While she loves riding, she dreads the chore of cleaning and maintaining horse riding equipment, known as tack. It's a tedious but necessary routine to keep saddles and bridles in top shape.
But what really frustrated Millie was the thought of buying yet another expensive sponge from a tack shop. "Every time I go to the tack shop, I feel like I'm getting robbed. I don't even want to think about how much I've spent on tack cleaning sponges in the past," she admitted in her social media post.
Determined to find a great deal, Millie turned to Temu, the fast-growing online marketplace where shoppers buy direct from factories—cutting out middlemen and cutting down costs. A quick search later, she had her answer: a pack of sponges for less than the price of one at her usual store.
When they arrived, she was pleasantly surprised. "The quality is just as good as the ones from professional tack shops."
Temu has been making waves for its wide selection of quality products at low prices, thanks to its direct distribution model. Now, riders have even more choice, as Temu expands its network of global sellers, with a variety of horse riding products available in the UAE and wider Middle Eastern region.
