Over the past 5 years, I have learnt so much about ‘mindset’ and how whatever mindset you are in can vastly impact your experiences and overall happiness. It is funny that it only really dawned on me that I recently formally recognised myself as having an abundance mindset, and once I spent more time thinking about this I could see how this has directly had an effect on the opportunities that have come my way and my overall happiness.
So what is an abundance mindset? It is a mindset that is rooted in the belief that the world is full of possibilities. Instead of focusing on limitations and what we lack, it encourages us to see the potential in every situation and to believe that we can achieve our goals.
This mindset contrasts sharply with a scarcity mindset, which is driven by fear, competition, and a belief that resources are limited. This is such a hard place to be- to have a belief system where you may feel there isn’t enough to go around, scarcity mindset can limit personal and professional growth, hinder relationships, and contribute to ongoing stress and unhappiness.
If any of this sounds familiar and you want to adopt an abundance mindset, here are some tips to get you started.
Gratitude- consistently practising gratitude should help you see the good things in your life. Keeping a gratitude journal is a great way to document and remind yourself of all the things, big and small that you have in your life that bring you happiness.
Be aware of negative thoughts- every time you feel a negative thought slipping in, consciously try and pull out a positive. For example, instead of thinking ‘I’m not good at public speaking’, try to think ‘wow- how great is it to be in a position where people want to hear me speak?’. By regularly reframing negative thoughts, you will begin to create a habit and brand new ‘happy’ neuro pathways.
Surround yourself with others who are abundance minded. It is really important for you to be conscious of who you surround yourself with- think about how you feel after you have been with certain people- do you feel energised or drained? Really try to cultivate your peer/ friendship group to include those who raise your vibration and make you excited for life!
Be generous. This always makes me think of the friends episode where Phoebe tries to convince Joe that there is such a thing as selfless good deeds… doing good deeds, or doing acts of kindness actually does make you feel good- so much so your brain can release serotonin- the happy hormone! You might also wish to believe that whatever you put out to the universe, will come back to you - good thoughts and good deeds will bring you good things!
Proactivity- it all well and good putting these things into practice. But if you have a particular goal, you need to take action to make it happen. Positive thoughts or manifestation won’t work alone! Making a list of actionable steps that are in your control, is a great place to remain accountable and stay on track in working towards your goals.
By focusing on the endless possibilities around you and cultivating a positive, generous outlook on life, you can unlock a life filled with joy and fulfilment. Start today by shifting your perspective and watch as new opportunities come flooding in!
