The Review // Ginger Moon W Dubai – Mina Seyahi

It has to be said, it takes a lot to get us out of the house on a Sunday evening, it is a school night after all. But the promise of a few hours poolside, child-free with live music, good vibes and even greater grilled-goodness and our arms were well and truly twisted! The stylish ‘no beach, beach club’ Ginger Moon has recently opened its doors at the W Dubai – Mina Seyahi and has just launched its new Summer Series with something on offer every day of the week – so even if you’re not a school night socialiser, there is something for you too!

Located on the second floor of the hotel, the journey from the entrance is completely captivating and in true W style, breaks the norms of traditional luxury. It’s buzzy, edgy and oh-so-cool with Arabic calligraphy etched on the huge W entrance sign, and what looks like an Aladdin magic carpet taking centre stage in the lobby. The adult-only property is distinctively ‘W’ in style with dark, muted tones and offers the perfect vibe for a couple's date night, but is equally befitting for a girls night out.

As we stepped inside Ginger Moon, we were promptly transported to a tropical, Tulum-esque oasis, complete with palm trees, a stunning infinity pool overlooking the Arabian Gulf, cabanas, outdoor seating and sun loungers. There is an inside dining area too but as dusk settled and the weather cooled, we made the most of the outdoor space, enjoyed the sunset and settled into our sun loungers for the evening with an exotic hand-crafted cocktail in hand – and regular cool-off dips in the pool.

Sunday evening is home to the ‘Fuego Pool Brunch’ which starts from 6:30pm until 10:00pm and aside from pool access, includes BBQ and house beverages. We began our brunch with a range of delicious salads including Tomato, Feta and Avocado, Lavish Greens with a Pickled Grapefruit Salad (quite possibly my favourite), a Rocket, Parmesan and Pine Nut salad with Lemon Dressing (another contender for the win!) and a Potato Salad with Egg, Veal Bacon and Honey Mustard. All were delicious, fresh and flavorsome and whet our appetite for the extensive range of meats and seafood to come.

Next up were juicy kebabs which consisted of Cayenne Marinated Beef, Organic Chicken Tawook, Field Mix Mushrooms and Harissa Chicken Sausage. The meat was grilled to perfection and served with four different sauces; Kimchi BBQ, Chimichurri, Garlic-Lemon Sauce and Mango-Honey Salsa. I’m such a fan of sauces with meats so to have a great range to choose from was fabulous and offered a different dimension to each dish.

Feeling close to full, with another 3 courses to go(!), we took a breather and enjoyed the pool, live music and DJ before going in for the next course; Angus Beef Flank, Lamb Chops and Baby Spatchcock Chicken, all cooked to perfection complete with broccolini and pine nuts, and the fluffiest new potatoes topped with sour cream. All courses were served sharing-style accompanied by imaginative crafted cocktails including the signature Gypsy Moth, Micheladas and red, white or rose Sangria amongst other wines and spirits.

Our next platter was arguably my favourite; the seafood platter, made up of Calamari, Sea Bass and Tiger Prawns. We were close to bursting at this point but managed to sample the equisite flavours, full of freshness before admitting defeat! The team at Ginger Moon were thoroughly attentive, nothing was too much trouble and they anticipated our needs very well, allowing us to space dinner out over the course of the evening with regular breaks in between. A special mention to Kent who looked after us so well and was super knowledgeable on all things Ginger Moon!

Desserts were available from the buffet and included a range of ice creams complete with sprinkles and jelly beans – that’s if you still have space! Sitting poolside with a drink in hand, admiring the city skyline to the left and the Ain Dubai and Arabian Gulf to the right, it was the perfect end to the week and one of those ‘Dubai’ moments where you really feel grateful for this wonderful city we live in.

The Fuego Evening Brunch is priced at AED 450 per person – and we recommend you go with an appetite to really enjoy all of the tastes and fusion flavours on offer!
