Terra Dubai Reopens After Refurb With Art Pop-Up Featuring Local Artist Chafic Mekawi

Terra, the multi-awarded neighbourhood eatery known for its community-forward ethos, announces its reopening in Dubai with an exclusive art exhibition by homegrowntalent Chafic Mekawi.

The exhibition marks the return of Terra’s Dubai location following a three-week refurbishment that breathes new energy into its much-loved Al Thanya space, further positioning Terra as a cultural destination where food and art converge.

The exhibition, curated by respected Dubai-based art collector Margo Castro Founder of Pinkum Collection, features five captivating artworks by Chafic Mekawi, an award-winning Canadian-Lebanese architect, multidisciplinary designer and digital artist based in Dubai. Blending traditional Gulf elements with a forward-looking perspective through Mekawi’s unique lens shaped by his upbringing between Beirut and the UAE, visitors are invited to explore themes of Arab identity, heritage, cultural symbolism and futurism expressed through striking artworks.

The exhibition is seamlessly integrated into Terra’s newly refreshed interiors. Temporarily closing for a thoughtful refurbishment Terra Dubai reemerges with a revitalised interior that keeps true to its original design led by renowned Dubai-based studio, Bone. Earthy textures remain with new bold touches, tactile materials and fresh foliage is added to an existing nursery of over 100 plants. All designed to complement the restaurant’s natural, Mediterranean courtyard-inspired feel. The space reflects the elemental tones and rooted yet dynamic spirit found in Mekawi’s pieces - further dissolving the line between the environment and expression.

Mekawi, known for his bold visual language and architectural sensibility, believes art has the power to elevate the tapestry of cultures and narratives of the East. Each selected art piece integrates symbols familiar to Gulf culture - from date palms to oriental rugs found in Emirati homes, all reimagined through the language of digital art and futurism. The result is a visual dialogue between past and future, rooted in regional context but universally resonant.

The art installation will remain at Terra throughout the summer. For more information please call Terra Dubai 04 388 8582 or visit www.terra-eatery.com
