Having lived in Dubai for the last fifteen years, it’s fair to say I’ve seen many new venues open, and close. Dare I say, I sometimes do a little eye-roll at the latest new mall, restaurant, or bar launch. It’s not that I don’t love visiting them, quite the opposite - but very rarely do many take my breath away like AURA did last weekend.
We booked two weeks in advance to visit over the National Day holiday and it’s pretty much booked up all day every day, so planning is essential if you’re thinking of visiting. Situated in the Palm Tower (St. Regis Hotel), AURA comes with its own entrance next to the hotel, and valet parking is available. Upon checking in, we stepped into a jungle-esque speedy elevator, bursting with excitement, up to the 51st floor - *ear popping imminent!*
As the elevator doors opened, we were transported into what I can only describe as an utterly beautiful space, filled with warm, earthy, natural colours and textures, set amongst lush greenery that complemented the sea and sky views outside perfectly. It really is heavenly and upon closer inspection when stepping outside onto the pool deck, I defy you to not feel as overwhelmed as I did!
A cool 200 metres up in the sky, AURA is described as the world’s highest 360-degree infinity pool and first and foremost, let’s talk about the views – they are just IN-SANE and the real star of the show! Wherever you are situated you are guaranteed breathtaking, unobstructed views of either the Palm Jumeirah or Dubai’s iconic skyline. You can also do a full 360 swim around the venue and take full advantage of the panoramic views from all perspectives. If you are a sun worshipper or love a good sunset, I would definitely recommend booking the Ain Dubai view with stunning views across the marina – this side gets the most sun and seemed to be the most popular area for sundowners!
Once I’d finished gasping at the view, camera in hand (obvs), we were whisked to a double sun lounger and given a cute tote bag and toiletry bag to keep which was a lovely touch. Making ourselves comfortable, we picked our poison. I started with a rose but there was a pretty extensive cocktail menu too that caught my eye. The staff were super friendly and accommodating, and even though it wasn’t on the menu, they happily whizzed me up my favourite Pina Colada! As we were dining later that evening, we ordered a few small snacks to keep us going – and I can confirm the truffle fries were delectable!
We whiled away the afternoon, relaxing from the hustle and bustle of the city, taking regular pool dips too once again admire the phenomenal views. The vibe was fun, welcoming and not at all pretentious. Being a toiletries snob, I also need to give a special mention to the fabulous Acqua Di Parma products in the ever-so-chic changing rooms too. The attention to detail doesn’t go unnoticed at AURA with every element well thought through and sympathetic to the surroundings. Whether you have family in town or you are looking to do something special, a little different from the norm, I can confirm that AURA is 100% worth the hype.
When you book your session, you can choose from 10am – 1pm, 3pm – 7pm or a full day with prices starting from AED 170. We booked the 3pm – 7pm session which gave us the advantage of having both day and night city skyline views. Watching the sun set over the Arabian gulf at such a height was truly breathtaking and a real Dubai ‘pinch me’ moment.
