
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library will host a panel discussion on musical theatre titled “Musical Theatre: The Rahbani Theatre as a Model” on 30 January.
The evening will begin with a panel discussion featuring His Excellency Yasser Al Gergawi, Chairman of the Dubai National Theatre, and renowned author, producer, and composer Marwan Rahbani. The discussion will explore the pioneering work of the Rahbani Brothers in blending Lebanese music, poetry, and theatrical performance. The session will also highlight the cultural significance of musical theatre, its role in society, and ways to evolve it in order to meet the tastes and aspirations of contemporary audiences.
Additionally, the session will delve into the Rahbani Brothers’ iconic collaborations with Fairouz, including the film “The Ring Seller” and the play “The Moon Bridge.” These works, which innovatively combined drama and music, represent a unique fusion of tradition and modernity. The discussion willexamine the impact of these masterpieces on the Arab cultural scene and theirpivotal role in shaping the history of Arab art.
The evening will conclude with a live performance by the Sharqiyat Choir, who will perform a selection of beloved songs by the Rahbani Brothers featuring Fairouz. This musical journey will showcase the depth and beauty of oriental art and transport the audience to a world of cultural richness.
