Squalene with an “e” is a naturally occurring agent and a primary component of the sebum in our bodies and it’s an active ingredient. While Squalane with an “a” is hydrogenated and it’s the stabilised version of Squalene. So, which one should you go for, you might ask? Squalane is the commonly used form in ready-to-use cosmetics and it’s the most recommended. The change in the biochemical structure makes it a lot more shelf stable and less likely to act like an allergen or irritant.
That being said, what both versions have in common is the impeccable ability to lock in moisture and smooth skin as they’re natural emollients. However, something to keep in mind is Squalene is heavier in texture so it might be well-suited for dry skin. While Squalane is best for oily and acne-prone skin due to its light texture.
