The new year is almost upon us, and in keeping with the ‘New Year, New You’ theme that tends to dominate the headlines during the month of January, leading hair and beauty salons, That Hair Tho (THT), put together the top hair trends that we can expect to see in 2022.

Whether you’re a side-part or middle-part kind of girl, it’s going to be all about the Mid-Length Bob in 2022. Opt for shaggy layers, ala-Kourtney Kardashian to give off a distinct 90’s vibe, or if you would like to give your hair a healthier, fuller appearance, keep your bob straight-cut and all one length. Either way, you’ll be bang on-trend.

Curls are still cool in 2022, but to update the look, stylists are keeping curls light, soft and effortless, using wider barrels for a less structured look. This technique creates more of a soft wave to ensure a style that is more fun than flawless. Blow dries are bouncy and beautifully volumized, giving off serious, ‘Heather Graham in Austin Powers’ vibes. Bangs are still big for 2022, with softly framing curtain-style fringes offering delicate layers around the face.

Bye-bye Balayage! It seems that one-dimensional colour will be knocking balayage off the top spot in 2022, with solid colours like warm chocolate brown, soft ginger and glossy black becoming the new go-to in trending colour. As for embracing your greys and putting aside colour completely? Michaela Quinn from THT says that this is one of the top trends of the season with the JLT-based salon seeing a dramatic increase in women choosing to embrace their natural grey and instead of colouring their hair, are ensuring that their natural hair is in optimum condition, exuding exceptional shine and overall health.
